Welcome to the new Cooking with Michele® website! I hope by now you’ve had the chance to poke around a bit, but I thought it might help if I point out some of the great features of the redesigned site.

Photography

I’m proud to say that all of the food photography on the site now is my own! As you click on the tabs at the top of the page, the header will rotate through various food photos that I’ve linked with the header. I’ll try to change that up periodically to make it more visually interesting for my readers.

Posts

Most posts will only show the first photo and paragraph – click on the text that says “Read the Rest” to link to the full post with the recipe. You’ll see a number of buttons under each post:

Leave a Comment Leave a Comment – click here if you want to comment on the post. I read and respond to my comments if you have a question so don’t be shy!

Print This Recipe Print This Recipe – the new print feature will take you to a clean copy of the recipe to print by clicking on the print text at the top (ads do not print with it). After you’ve finished you can click on the text at the top to return to the post.

ShareThis – if this post sounds good to you, share it with yor friends!

Subscribe Like this post? Get new post updates by feed or email. – Don’t miss a single post! Click on either the RSS feed button of the email link to subscribe to posts.

Categories

When you click on the any of the categories to the right, you’ll now be presented with a visual index of all the recipes in that category. I hope the thumbnail photos will make it easier for you to find what you’re looking for and will entice you to try more recipes.

Tags

Tags work a bit differently in WordPress than in Blogger – you’ll see a cloud to the right with a bunch of tags from posts. Don’t see what you’re looking for? Just type in what you want to find in the search bar on every page and hit enter to see the results. Note that you’ll get both recipe posts in this search as well as other info from my site (classes or food writing) that apply.

Recent Posts

You can see thumbnails for the most recent few posts on the right under the categories. Hover your cursor over the picture and it will tell you what it is if it’s not obvious! I hope to be adding a second column next to the recent posts that will highlight some of the most popular posts on the site.

Foodie Links

There are literally tens of thousands of food blogs out there, ranging from dull to gorgeous, inspired to tired. I keep building a list of some of my favorites and they will randomly rotate through this links button for you to investigate.

Amazon Favorites Links

I keep two widgets on my site to highlight some of my favorite food writing (cookbooks and other) as well as equipment. I order quite a bit of my cooking gear from Amazon.com and you can click through to order right from the site.

Tabs

At the very top on the left you’ll find links to the other areas of the site:

  • About – has my bio and information about my services, both classes and other
  • Classes – lists ideas for group cooking classes for both kids and adults – but don’t be limited as I can tailor a class to anything you’d like to cook
  • Food Writing – has links to my published food writing clips as well as a link to my essay about eating local
  • Cookbook Reviews – periodically I review cookbooks and when I do the reviews will be posted here
  • Cooking Trip to Italy – although we have a full group for the 2010 trip, this will give you an idea of the trip I lead and perhaps inspire you to sign up early (penalty free to just say you’re interested!) for the next trip
  • Travel Journal – travel for me is as much about food and wine as anything else, and I chronicle most of my trips on this blog, including tips on where to stay, what to do, and how to eat like a king! The categories here are in a nested hierarchy, so you’ll see that France is under Europe, for example.

What else would you like to see? Send me a note and let me know what you want me to highlight on the site!

New blog looks great – lots to catch up on. I’m tiring of Blogger too.
