Finally…Vine Ripened Tomatoes!

August 12, 2011  •  Vegetables

Finally! I’ve been waiting for weeks for my measly looking tomato plants to start producing. Then this afternoon after cooking at a local food bank with hot house tomatoes, I crept back into my garden to see what’s up. Magically, I finally had ripe tomatoes of multiple kinds, with more green ones starting to turn pink. It’s halfway through August, so it’s about time!

This blog is full of great ways to use fresh tomatoes. Here are some of my favorites:

Know what my favorite is? Hot from the sun, just plucked from the vine, popped into my mouth in the garden, juices trickling down my chin and arm. Have I missed any of your favorite ways to enjoy vine ripened tomatoes in the summer?

These are all beautiful dishes! I love the bright colors, and how can resist ripe, summer tomatoes? The tomato and goat cheese tart looks lovely.

    Gorgeous, tempting pics!

My tomatoes are just starting to get ripe, as well. I enjoyed the first beefsteak tomato of the season, right out the garden (Yes to warm from the sun!), cut into chunks with lots of ground pepper and a dash of salt.

haha It’s funny reading this and seeing all your tomato recipes because I was just thinking the other day about how much I love tomatoes and how many tomato recipes I have as well. Like mother, like daughter.
