Green Onion Root Magic

April 7, 2012  •  Informational

Hey kids, here’s a fun trick! the next time you or your parents are cooking a recipe that calls for green onions (also called scallions), make sure your parents leave the bunch tied together and just cut off the top green part of the onions above the band. Then stick the bottom portion, roots down, into a cup of water. Change the water every day or two, and in just a few days the roots will take hold and the onions will start growing again. Within a week or two you’ll have a whole new bunch of green onions – for free!

Green onions are great sprinkled on top of scrambled eggs, tacos, baked potatoes, or creamy soups. Leave me a comment and let me know how YOU like to use green onions!
