My Favorite Christmas Sweet Treats

December 22, 2014  •  Best of the Food Web, Desserts,

chocolate biscottiIf you’re celebrating Christmas, you’re probably into the final stretch of getting ready for your holiday dinner. I’ve posted my menu for Christmas dinner before – I always make lasagna on Christmas Eve (you’ll find several different recipes here, here, and here) and then on Christmas day I make a beef tenderloin for dinner. (You can also make it with this spice rub.) And I have enough side dish recipes on this site to cover you for sure. But since I’m not much of a baker, I don’t usually dwell on the sweets, and thought a nice holiday roundup might be nice this year.pistacchio biscotti 2That biscotti at the top is chocolate with pine nuts and cranberries and this one is pistachio. I like biscotti because they are equally good with your coffee on Christmas morning as they are for dessert on Christmas evening, and they make pretty gifts.chocolate chipotle pudding cakeThese chocolate chipotle pudding cakes (which can be served alone, with fruit, or with a sweet tomatillo sauce) are always a crowd pleaser for the chocolate fans in your celebration.olive oil cake with sugarIf you like something a little less sweet, but with really interesting texture and flavor, opt for an Italian olive oil cake with thyme, sprinkled with some powdered sugar.pumpkin cheesecake w caramel sauceI have number of cheesecake recipes on this site, from a seasonal pumpkin cheesecake with caramel sauce to a peanut butter cup cheesecake, to some simple individual cheesecake tarts you can make in cupcake liners and even freeze ahead of time.chocolate peanut butter fudge 1Nothing says Christmas vacation more to me than my mom’s old peanut butter fudge recipe. It was from our elementary school recipe collection that the PTA put together back in the 60s and for me, it’s essential (although I’m not sure why each year I feel compelled to make two whole pounds of the stuff)!orange butter cookies 4I also have LOTS of cookie recipes on this site – 20 to be exact – and they range from chocolate to ginger to butter to orange to oatmeal to…you get the idea!pear-tart-with-frangipaneAnd finally, the only baking that I believe I am expert in is tarts – I have recipes on here for fruit tarts like pear, apple, blueberry, lemon, and peach as well as things like chocolate and banana. Head into the kitchen today – preferably with friends, family, kids, parents – and enjoy the holiday season together.

From my kitchen to yours, happy holidays!

Michele, Got nostalgic tears in my eyes the second I saw the photo of the Peanut Butter Fudge from the old Northview Elementary School PTA Cookbook. That brings such memories of you, mom and me in the kitchen over the holidays!

However, THIS one gets my vote for Christmas dinner dessert: “These chocolate chipotle pudding cakes (which can be served alone, with fruit, or with a sweet tomatillo sauce) are always a crowd pleaser for the chocolate fans in your celebration.” HINT HINT! 😉
