New Style Tuna Sashimi

I am in my new house! I’ll be doing a blog post about kitchen design, showing the how I organized the space and why, along with lots of photos, as soon as everything is finished. Leading up to the big move, I spent months trying to mostly live off of what I had accumulated in my pantry and freezer. Well, sometimes cleaning out the refrigerator never tasted so good!I had some sushi grade tuna from Whole Foods in the freezer, a sad looking lime, half of an avocado, and ginger from my kids’ sushi classes. And so I give you New Style Sashimi. The oil and seasonings are heated before pouring over the tuna. I had intended to serve it with jalapeño slices, but forgot them in the picture. Try this with salmon as well for a lighter, but anything but boring, lunch or dinner.
- 3 ounces sushi grade tuna, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
- 1 teaspoon chili sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 small clove garlic, minced fine
- 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
- Avocado, ginger, or jalapeño slices, for garnish
- Lay the tuna slices on the plate and set aside.
- Heat the lime juice, sesame oil, olive oil, and garlic in a small saucepan just until it starts to bubble, then pour over tuna slices. Drizzle the soy sauce over the top and garnish with avocado, ginger, and jalapeño slices. Serve immediately.
