Restaurant Roundup: Narrative

May 13, 2019  •  Restaurants

The restaurant scene is Denver is thriving, along with the population growth, the building, the job market, and just about everything else. Small boutique hotels, like Jaquard in Cherry Creek, seem to be popping up everywhere, and they usually include some hip new restaurant. There’s Departure and Quality Italian in the the Halcyon, Mercantile Dining & Provision and Stoic &Genuine in Union Station with the Crawford Hotel, Tavernetta in Kimpton’s Hotel Born, and many more. I like the vibe of these spots – young people, out of town travelers, a full restaurant even on a snowy Wednesday night. Perfect for three friends to get together.

caesar salad deviled eggsgrilled artichoke toast with pickled pepper, gruyère, parmesantri colore salad with local greens, pear, pine nut, asiago, balsamic dressingspaghetti and meatballs with whipped ricotta, san marzano tomatoscottish salmon* crushed potato, artichoke, roasted tomato, sherry

The food was as promised: “modern American dishes, globally inspired shareable plates”. We shared everything, and although it wasn’t perfect (the salmon was a bit overcooked for my taste, the meatballs not quite velvety as I like, and the service a bit slow), it was pretty delicious across the board and we left satiated and happy. I’ll give it another shot for sure, if for no other reason than to try the tuna poke with sesame, sriracha, ginger, soy, cucumber, scallion, the chopped salad with chicken, bacon, avocado, corn, tomato, date, almond, goat cheese, the gnocchi “mac n cheese” with wild mushroom, peas, truffle, parmesan, or the shrimp and grits with andouille, bacon, pea, roasted tomato, tabasco butter. Yeah, pretty sure I must go back!
