Peach Sangria

June 27, 2010  •  Beverages, Fruit, Popular, Wine

My idea for serving peach sangria for a party of the women in my neighborhood all started when I found this great summer beverage dispenser at Costco. It holds a full 3 gallons, it’s lightweight acrylic so you can easily move it around, and it seemed like it was just calling for a summer sangria. I’m not sure if there is any special authentic recipe for sangria – I tend to just start mixing things until it tastes right. But my combo this time was so delicious that I felt it’s worth capturing the recipe to share. You can see the assortment of fruit I used – peaches, oranges, lemons, limes and green apples.I actually mixed wines for this recipe, which I was unsure of but which also turned out to be just the right blend.I like sangria a bit fortified, so I always use brandy or schnapps – in this case peach schnapps.Doesn’t the sangria look gorgeous in this dispenser? You want this to infuse and meld, so make sure to mix it up at least several hours ahead, or up to the day before. Just don’t add the sparking wine until right before serving so it doesn’t go flat. Serving a large container of a single drink for a party means you don’t have to run around opening bottles of wine and taking orders. And it’s just plain festive to boot. Happy summer!

I’m having a party on Saturday and this recipe sounds perfect. There are about 30 people coming, not all drinkers. How many does one batch serve?
