Chicken Tikka Masala

January 9, 2012  •  Meat & Poultry

You might recall my recent visit to the Savory Spice Shop in downtown Denver. I was there primarily to get pink salt and juniper berries to make my home cured pancetta but couldn’t resist buying a bunch of other spice mixes while I was there. I love Indian food, but don’t have all the spices you need to make most of the dishes.Fortunately the spice shop has a ready made package for Tikka Masala. You simply mix the dry spices with some oil and water then proceed with a simple recipe.I actually made this whole dish and photographed it in about 20 minutes – it’s that simple with the prepared spice mix. If you’re not in the Denver area you can actually order their spices online. I’d serve this dish over some simple jasmine rice so that you can really enjoy the flavor of the sauce and spices, maybe with some saag and some naan bread for soaking up the sauce. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

I love Savory Spice Shop; I’ve been going to the one in Littleton for years and I know going in that I have to be VERY careful; it’s hard not to want one of everything!

I felt lucky they carry pink salt for my curing too; I’ve sent some to friends all over the country who could not find it locally when we all decided to cure our own bacon. AND I have the same spice mix too; it’s so easy and so good. I think I’m going to defrost some chicken breasts now; thanks for a great idea I can implement easily.

Oh Michele, this dish is one of my all time favorites. Reading this makes me wonder why I have not made it (I think after we became gluten free we narrowed things significantly when not knowing every ingredients in something like a spice mix). This dish looks so inviting the way you’ve made it and taken photos of it; I’m sure showing it in it’s most beautiful, true form! Gorgeous. Envying your warm weather trip next week!

Love Tikka Masala. And I’ve only made it once. Will try their blend next time I’m in.

Oh that I could actually cook and shoot something in that short a time. I’m SO SLOW. And I haven’t made tikka masala in quite a while. Spice mixes are definitely a good thing for recipes like this!

I found a pre-made spice mix at the store and didn’t know what to do with it. Thanks to Google, I found your super easy recipe, made it tonight, and it was delicious! The only thing I did differently was add a pinch of salt and a pinch of chili powder (our preference). Thanks again!
