New Recipe Format!

March 30, 2011  •  Informational

If you look at the post from earlier today for Balsamic and Soy Glazed London Broil, you’ll see a new recipe format after the text and photos of the post. To make a long story short and to not bore any of you who aren’t bloggers yourself, Google recently announced a new search view for recipes, and in order to work within those parameters, I need to structure my recipes a new way.

If the recipe is formatted with a Print button in the top right corner of the recipe, you can now use that to print the recipe so it will print cleanly. You can still use the print option below the post to print old recipes, and if you happen to select this in the new format by accident, it will print but just won’t be as pretty!

Over time – and I mean lots of time since I have nearly 500 recipes on this site! – I’ll be converting all of my recipes to this new format. You can help by letting me know if anything isn’t working correctly.

If you’re a blogger, you might be interested in this WordPress Plugin – just click on the link to Easy Recipe at the bottom of the recipe block and you can learn more. Here’s a good article from Elise at Simply Recipes about recipe search and rich snippets. And here’s the Google webmaster page that lets you test your posts to be sure that rich snippets are working properly.

Thanks heaps for the kind words on our plugin. Like you, I wanted a way to cut and paste my recipes in that didn’t make me think like a programmer.
