Restaurant Roundup – The Kitchen Upstairs, Boulder

August 10, 2011  •  Restaurants

The second day of the Food and Light 2011 workshop in Boulder last week was held at the restaurant The Kitchen Upstairs. It’s a pub style environment, serving rustic food prepared in a wood-fired oven, and it reflects the same green, local philosophy of the original Kitchen Cafe downstairs. Fortunately for the students in the workshop, the light was fantastic for shooting.Hummus with grilled bread – who doesn’t love that as a start to a meal? Their hummus had a wonderful texture to it and I had trouble sharing with the others at the table!Mixed green salad with a mustard viniagrette……that you load up with your own feta cheese crumbles and toasted hazelnuts. Yum!I can’t remember if this was couscous or quinoa served with the roasted eggplant and tomatoes – either would be good, and this was good enough for seconds. So good that I could barely eat any of the fish served over that lovely white bean ragout.

The food is great, the staff friendly, and the ambiance of the restaurant inviting. And hey, it’s Boulder, which is always a great diversion for those of us living in Denver!
