Eating My Way Through the Caribbean – St. Lucia to Grenada

February 29, 2012  •  Caribbean, Travel

This is Part 3 in a 4-part series about my bareboat sailing adventure with three couples from St. Lucia to Grenada in the Caribbean. Read on to learn about great spots for dining on the gorgeous Windward Islands of the Caribbean. We only ate a few lunches and dinners on board, wanting to try all of these great island spots while we were there – check them out!
Marigot Bay, St. Lucia
Rainforest Hideaway

Amuse bouche of Caribbean chicken salad, pumpkin soup with coconut milk, duck breast with beets and pears on a potato pancake, bananas flambe with ice cream for dessert
Soufriere, St. Lucia
Hummingbird

Gazpacho, kingfish with lemon and capers (and great vegetable side dishes!), creme caramel for the table to share
The Blue Lagoon, St. Vincent
The French Verandah Restaurant

Escargot in garlic butter sauce with French bread, French onion soup, salad, tuna with balsamic glazed onions
Admiralty Bay, Bequia
Mac’s Pizzeria

Conch fritters with Erica’s Caribbean hot sauce, salad, an assortment of pizzas to share
(We also watched the Super Bowl and had a junk food fest for dinner at Papa’s Bar on Bequia – wings, ribs, fish and chips, popcorn, and more)
The private island of Mustique
Basil’s Bar

For lunch, gazpacho, Callaloo Soup, tomatoes with mozzarella and basil, chicken club sandwich
For dinner, Caribbean BBQ chicken
Charleston Bay, Canouan
Tamarind Beach Hotel & Yacht Club

More tomatoes with (really good fresh) mozzarella and basil, more gazpacho, superb risotto with shrimp and sundried tomatoes (always trust a good waiter’s suggestions)
Clifton, Union Island
Anchorage Yacht Club

Waiting out the rain (the only storm of our entire trip) is much easier with good wine and pizza
Salt Whistle Bay, Mayreau
Salt Whistle Bay Club

The resort is just reopening by the daughter of the former owner who passed away, so all they had for lunch was a club sandwich or freshly caught snapper
Clifton, Union Island
Bougainvillea Pizzeria

More callaloo soup, pizza and salad – always popular with our group for lunch – and a nice way to spend a little time while waiting for our new friend Jimmy to get us a new gas can for our dingy
Chatham Bay, Union Island
Sun Beach Eat Restaurant & Bar

We stopped in for the rum punch, but Anthony Bourdain featured Vanessa’s spot on one of his No Reservations shows
Tyrrel Bay, Carriacou
the Lazy Turtle

Pasta dishes and salad looking out over the pristine Caribbean waters
Tyrrel Bay, Carriacou
Twilight

Sharing some bubbly with Troy who then enticed us to dine at his family’s Twilight restaurant – some of the best chicken I’ve had in years served with potatoes, rice, and vegetables, with fish soup as a starter
St. George’s, Grenada
The Grenada Yacht Club

Final night’s dinner – most of the group had another round of callaloo soup, salad, and seafood pasta, but I ventured out to try the Caribbean curried lamb with rice (really delicious)
Stay tuned for part 4, Spiny Lobsters of the Caribbean, coming soon!
