Restaurant Roundup: Ambli DTC

February 26, 2018  •  Restaurants

I’m not a huge fan of contrived dining experiences, like special prix fixe menus for Valentine’s Day, and Denver Restaurant Week in the past has felt like that to me. Too many people eating out, restaurants trying to ram rod dishes into a special 3-course menu that fits that year’s rules for participation. So imagine my surprise when I showed up at Ambli in the DTC Friday night, completely unaware that it was even Denver Restaurant Week, and found this incredibly creative menu to choose from.

Chips with Two DipsPani Puri (Indian Street Food)
The restaurant offers a six-course tapas menu for two for $70 (there’s also a 4-course option for one person for $35) and instead of dictating the selections, diners select one thing from each category, starting with Introductions. The other two options here were Saki Style Lobster Shooters and House Made Potato Chips.
Crispy Brussels Sprouts with Date and Apple Garnish
The Light & Easy Chit Chat Category also offered Tomato-Basil or Lentil Soup as well as a Roasted Beet Salad.
Duck Confit Potstickers
The Meat of the Conversation section of the menu offered a whopping six options – beyond the potstickers (which had the best sauce I’ve tasted in years), choices included Arancini di Funghi, Beef Samosas, Chicken or Vegetarian Saag Quesadillas, Carne Asada Sopes, Bistro Tenderloin Naan Tostados.
Sashimi Tuna
Beyond this tuna, the Heart to Heart category included Grilled Octopus, Tequila Jalapeño Garlic Shrimp, a Kabob Platter of Ribeye Steak.
Ambli Style PaellaGreen Curry Barramundi
The Connections We Created group was made up of dishes paired with rice, and these were perhaps my favorite dishes of the night, even if we were actually quite full by this time. Choices also included Kuku Paka (Chicken Coconut), Chicken Tikka Masala, and a Vegetarian Indian Sampler with Basmati Rice and Naan Bread.

Although dessert was included, the three of us had barely enough room to share a bite of one dessert – Apple Cinnamon Bread Pudding. It was good – had I been handed that on an empty stomach with a cup of coffee I’m sure I could have demolished it!
