The Aqueduct

January 17, 2022  •  Beverages,

There’s a club that names it’s drinks after racetracks or racing terms, and this was created and named after the one racetrack that is located within New York City. It’s really very, very similar to my Old Fashioned recipe, with a few tweaks: muddled orange slices instead of fresh squeezed OJ, and simple syrup instead of cherry syrup. The little fizz from the club soda is a nice addition. As I’ve developed the taste for bourbon I find I like my cocktails to have a distinct bourbon taste, so I usually up the bourbon a bit, but you can back it down to 2 ounces if you prefer you drink less strong. Also, I didn’t have plain club soda on hand but used unsweetened mandarin orange seltzer which worked great!

Recipe type: Beverage
Serves: 2
Ingredients
  • 6 maraschino cherries
  • 4 orange slices
  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup
  • 6 dashes orange bitters
  • 6 ounces bourbon
  • 2 ounces club soda
Instructions
  1. Place 2 cherries in the bottom of two rocks glasses. Cut 2 of the orang slices in half and put them in the glasses, then muddle with the cherries. Place a large ice cube in each glass. Skewer the remaining cherries and orange slices onto 2 picks.
  2. Combine the simple syrup, bitters, bourbon and club soda in a shaker, cover, and gently turn upside down a couple of times to mix everything. Don't shake or the club soda will go flat!
  3. Divide between the two glasses and garnish with the orange slices.
