Sazon-Adobo Seasoning
October 12, 2024 • Condiments,
When I began spending time in Puerto Rico, I naturally wanted to learn the classic recipes of my partner’s heritage – arroz con gandules, pollo guisado, pastelillos, habichuelas guisadas, and more. And the first thing I noticed was that many of these recipes call for seasonings not traditionally used in cuisines I was more familiar with. I mastered my own version of sofrito, thanks to David’s aunt, but was baffled by the huge varieties of both Sazon seasoning and Adobo seasoning I found the in the grocery stores near our house on the southern side of the island. But with a little research I created a spice blend from the spices I already had on hand that I think is a great mix to use when one of these dishes calls for this type of seasoning. Just like my taco seasoning, I suggest making a larger batch of this so you have it on hand when a recipe calls for it.
