Applesauce…Quick, Easy, Delicious
October 13, 2009 • Desserts, Fruit, Side Dishes
You might have never thought to make homemade applesauce – it’s readily available in every grocery store and comes in a wide variety of flavors including all natural with no sugar added. But I’m here to urge you to make it yourself – if not for the wonderful taste of freshly made warm applesauce, then for the incredible aroma in your kitchen it will produce.
It can’t be simpler – just peel, core and roughly chop a bunch of apples (I figure 1/2 to 1 per person), then add them to a pot with some water. For about 20 apples, I use about 3/4 to a cup of water. Throw in some cinnamon – about 1 tablespoon for 20 apples) and let it simmer, covered, until the apples are tender, about 20 minutes. Puree in a food processor or blender, or use your trusty stick blender if you have one. Enjoy warm or cover and refrigerate. If this doesn’t say “autumn” I don’t know what does!
