While just about everything about launching my cookbook has been exciting, I must say I got a small thrill when my publisher called to tell me that all 10 stores in Costco would be carrying the book. More than the obvious value of selling large volumes, for me, Costco’s decision to carry the book feels like an endorsement of the book’s broad appeal not only as a cookbook but also a great gift item. It landed in stores on the April 15th (just in time for Mother’s Day!), and Costco invited me to do some book signings with a couple of their stores this week: Continue Reading »

I jumped out of bed early this morning, knowing that the Tasting Colorado cookbook would be featured in today’s Denver Post. Let me tell you, for a foodie like me who has chosen to make a career out of teaching others to cook and food writing, it’s more than a small thrill to find yourself on the cover page of the Food section of your local newspaper! I’ve been asked quite a few times how I decided to put the Cowboy Corn Cakes on the front cover of my new cookbook, Tasting Colorado. Besides being delicious (recipe follows), I felt this recipe was just a perfect example of what the book is intended to portray: the very best of Colorado cuisine. Continue Reading »

I’ve started cooking for a special event this week. The Colorado Authors’ League (of which I’m a member) is hosting an event at my house this Thursday, March 7th. It’s a special chance to sample some of the recipes from my new cookbook, Tasting Colorado (available here), mingle with some fun people, have a glass of wine, and hear a bit about what it takes to move from a job in corporate America to a food blog to the publication of a cookbook. It’s going to be fun, we still have some room, and it’s open to anyone, so won’t you join us? The cost is $40 per person and includes a signed copy of the cookbook. If you already have a book, come anyway and I’ll sign it as a gift for a friend. I’ll be serving these cookies along with 3-4 other recipes. To RSVP call Mindy Sink at 303-596-8983. For the recipe for these cookies from the book, read on! Continue Reading »

Yesterday a large truck pulled up alongside my garage and unloaded a pallet of 15 boxes of my cookbook, Tasting Colorado: Favorite Recipes from the Centennial State. Never has the project seemed more real or exciting than seeing them all lined up in my garage! The book is now available (call the publisher directly at 800-821-3874 or order on amazon.com – even though amazon says it’s out of stock, it’s not, as they just order and fulfill in small batches). Or if you’re in the Denver area and want to pick up a signed copy directly from me I’d be delighted. To whet your appetite, I’m going to share a recipe or two from each section over the next few weeks. First up, appetizers. Continue Reading »

I cannot tell you how exciting this day is for me! I began work on my first cookbook project in the summer of 2011, tested recipes like mad through the end of 2011, and turned the manuscript in early in 2012. Then I waited. And edited. And waited. And proofread. And waited. And reviewed copy. And waited. And processed all of my photos for the recipes. And you got it, waited some more. That’s how publishing works, I’ve learned. And now the day is finally here – I have my advance copy of Tasting Colorado: Favorite Recipes from the Centennial State and the books should arrive at the publisher in just a few weeks! You may pre-order books with the publisher (Farcountry Press, 800-821-3874), and for the first 100 books pre-ordered, I’ll send you Continue Reading »
