Giant Cookies Fundraiser to End Hunger
July 1, 2010 • Food for Thought, Local Sources
The Whole Foods stores in this region are doing a great thing this weekend – offering up these giant cookies to help raise funds for Share Our Strength, the parent organization to Operation Frontline that’s dedicated to ending childhood hunger in America. Here’s the press release from Whole Foods:
“As part of Whole Foods Market’s partnership with Share Our Strength, all of our 28 stores in the Rocky Mountain region are going to participate in the Great American Bake Sale from July 2nd through July 4th to create awareness and help educate the community about an issue that is often ignored. Since 2003, more than 1.7 million people have participated in Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale, raising $6 million to make sure no child in America grows up hungry. Funds that we raise will directly support local efforts to end childhood hunger by 2015. Almost all of our regions work with Share Our Strength on some level, and we feel like it’s a good time for the Rocky Mountain region to get on board.
Purchase a Giant Chocolate Chip cookie at any of our stores in New Mexico, Utah, Kansas and Colorado to help us support Share Our Strength! $2 from the sale of each cookie will go directly back to the effort. Our stores will be getting really creative in decorating them to celebrate the 4th of July. Please check in with your local Whole Foods Market for more details. In addition, we will also support Share Our Strength in Denver’s Taste of Nation event, so be sure to stop by to try some delicious, healthy Whole Foods Market chef prepared fare, July 18th from 5-8:00 p.m. at Mile High Station.”
Good food for a good cause – won’t you participate by buying one? If you don’t have a crowd to share it with, just cut into smaller pieces and keep it in the freezer until you’re ready for a snack!
